Government plans to consider scraping the Equality Act 2010

Friday 17th of May 2013

Innovations At Work consultants received this email today 17th May 2013 regarding the possible scrapping of the Equality Act. I am sure we do not need to explain the seriousness of the possible consequences of this action. This would presumably signal the end of Equality Impact Assessments. Please read below…..

The Coalition Government appears to be consulting on scrapping the entire Equality Act 2010, which includes ALL anti-discrimination legislation in the UK, The consultation can be found on: http://www.redtapechallenge.cabinetoffice.gov.uk/equalities/ http://www.redtapechallenge.cabinetoffice.gov.uk/equalities/

This is part of a new website to encourage the public to tell the Government where to cut red tape. One of the first areas to be examined includes the Equality Act 2010 - and one of the suggestions requiring comment is to scrap the Act altogether in order to cut unnecessary bureaucracy on business and the public sector. Therefore can Innovations At Work consultants urge you as readers of this article to please go on to the website and leave your own comments about why the Equality Act 2010 is important to the UK, and please encourage staff where you work, your networks and friends and family – because the results could be unthinkable!

Below is a quick reminder of the Equality Strategy that the Coalition prioritised as important and signed up to in the lead up to the General Election – this is what we may lose!

“The Government's Equality Strategy sets out our vision for a strong, modern and fair Britain. It is built on two principles of equality – equal treatment and equal opportunity.  This means building a society where no one is held back because of who they are, or where they come from”.
