Case Study: On Positive Action programmes with
Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic BAME staff networks

Introduction:

Innovations At Work specialises in delivering programmes of work that develop Black & Asian Minority Ethnic (BAME) staff and managers. This is part of our on-going strategy to 'mainstream equalities' into organisations by developing their talented people.

Here are past and present examples of our work:

1. London Borough of Wandsworth 2010

Innovations at Work consultants took a key role in supporting the development and implementation of the work plan of the Staff Diversity Group within the Councils' Benefits Department. The work involved supporting the Group - drawn from staff across the department - to develop a relevant and focused work programme agreed by departmental management. Innovations At Work consultants acted as a critical friend helping to prioritise actions and develop a strategy for clear and focused feedback to the Senior Management Group.

2. Civil Service Race Equality Network (CSREN) 2010

Innovations At Work consultants worked closely with this network of diversity groups across government departments to develop a plan of action through the use of the Equality Impact Assessment (EIA) process. The work involved training network representatives in the EIA process, facilitating a staff away days and offering one to one support and advice on how the groups could engage with Human Resources departments to support robust and actionable impact assessments.

3. Outer North East London (ONEL) 2010-2011

ONEL is a collection of Primary Care Trusts (PCTS) supporting the Healthcare Needs of the public across the north east corner of London.  Innovation At Work consultants have been commissioned to design and facilitate their first modular Management Development training for their Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) middle managers.

The programme has several ingredients: it will be competence based, and involve senior managers in a 360 degree assessment of their middle managers. This will provide tangible starting points which will assist the monitoring and evaluation of progress. The planned modular course planned will work alongside Action Learning sets which will focus on resolving 'real live work issues'.
